Day 8 - Museums and Gardens of Nice

With all the walking of yesterday in Monaco, it was time for a more relaxing day to take in some of the culture and art that Nice has to offer. Atop the hill of Cimiez we found the Musee Matisse. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp for his significant developments in painting and sculpture. This museum next to his residence (Hotel Regina) offers the best collection of his work.

The Italianate gardens beside the museum are beautifully kept and with stunning views of Nice.

From here we moved down the hill to Musee Marc Chagall. This is a national museum to him which was set up in his lifetime and the building even has some of his artist input. The museum houses his main paintings, in particular his works illustrating the biblical message. There is also a documentary in the cinema within the building which gives an excellent insight into the man himself.

After lunch, beach and a swim!

As always the food in France was amazing and our last meal didn't disappoint!

Tomorrow we fly to Rome for our Italian adventure!
