The Roman Holiday - Ciao Bella!

It has been a long time since the last post, but these photos need to be seen, hence I am squeezing in a moment to give you a glimpse of our adventures in Rome and Northern Italy.
The square of the Basilica Santa Maria in Trastevere

This is a collection of photos, not captured on the same day, but rather over a few weeks that we have spent in Rome.

A meeting point in Trastevere
Since we lived south of the Trastevere station, we usually took the tram or walked (about 45 minutes) to the happening wining and dining scene of Trastevere.

The square by the Basilica is a very popular hang-out place in the evenings with cafes and bars sprinkled along the side streets.

Inside the Basilica of Trastevere. Gorgeous mosaics and a very intricate ceiling.

From there we either walked towards the Pantheon and Plaza Navona or walked along the Tevere towards Ponte Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica. Piazza Navona, Piazza di Popolo, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain are heavily touristy this time of the year. It was practically impossible to get a peaceful moment of admiration and reflection by the Trevi fountain, which I like so much.

The weather was beautiful, however, and the atmosphere was lovely.

Guess the movie scene...

Trevi

The Pantheon, is probably my favorite building in Rome. That atrium and domed ceiling is incredible.

The Pantheon at night. Love. LOVE. LOVE!

Incredible Bernini's wonder in the center of Piazza Navona
Borromini's edifice (a court architect rival to Bernini, they ostensibly hated each other). Ironic that the piazza designed by Borromini has the centerpiece designed by Bernini.

BEST. GELATO. EVER. Even if you don't care for Bernini and Michelangelo's genius, even if Rafael is an incorrect spelling of the Ferrero Rocher sweet to you, this Roman legacy will not leave you impartial... Best gelato in town for over a century. Personal favorites: Sour cherry and champagne

Dock for boat tours of Tevere destroyed by the flood last year

Driftwood from rising waters in the last few years

Got to the beach from Trastevere withing 40 minutes. Black sand - volcanic origin
Pantheon

Rafael's tomb inside the Pantheon

Sit tight for the trip through Sienna, Bologna, Lago di Garda, Verona, Venice, San Marino, Orvieto, Bolsena, Civitta di Bagnoreggio...
